American critical minerals and lithium-ion battery recycling company, American Battery Technology Company (OTCMKTS:ABML), on March 24, 2022 welcomed new Director of Research and Development, Dr. York Smith.

On Friday, ABML stock fell 1.83% to $1.07 with more than 1.44 million shares traded, compared to its average Friday of 2.53 million shares. The stock moved within a range of $1.0200 – 1.1000 after opening trading at $1.10.

Dr Smith brings over 15 years of R&D experience. He also has significant background in applied sciences in chemical engineering as well as sustainable technology process development. Having worked as an assistant professor at University of Utah’s Materials Science and Engineering Department, Dr Smith was also awarded distinguished honor by Society of Mining, Metallurgy, & Exploration for work focused on “Lithium: Resources, Recovery, and Recycling.”

At Utah, Dr Smith led a team of interdisciplinary researchers developing sustainable technologies for extracting lithium both from secondary as well as primary resources including recycling technologies. He has a B.S. and M.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno as well as Ph.D. in metallurgical engineering. Having published in more than 50 journal publications, Smith also serves on strategic advisory committee of The Remade Institute, organization of industry innovators and academic researchers.

Dr. York Smith said that his prior research has been on solving fundamental challenges pertaining to materials processing and sustainability. He further stated that the opportunity to work with ABTC team will help in harnessing his research and development experience. The Research Director added that he was attracted to the role due to ABTC’s commitment in developing scientifically sound as well as environmentally low-impact technologies for a sustainable future.

ABML stock is above the 20-Day and 50-Day Moving averages of $0.99 and $0.93 respectively. However, the stock is trading below the 200-Day moving average of $1.32.
